I’m a doer, a practitioner. I’m authentic and not a salesman. When I try to use fancy sales copy and lingo, I sound like a dummy. I am what I am.

I have a skill set that is me.

Create a skill set that is you.

We are all born with a blank slate. We have no preconceived notions or perspectives. Some of us are luckier than others in the attributes we inherited, but, in the end, you have the ability to control you. At the end of the day, week, month, year, lifetime, you are answerable to only you.

Are you creating the life you desire from the life you were given?

A few months ago, I was working with a friend and mental performance coach, Len Wright, and in discussion, he stated, “I have a skill set that is me.” I immediately asked if I could use that phrase in the future; I resonated with it perfectly.

I spend a great deal of time talking to potential clients (I don’t like using that word, but can’t find a better one. Any alternatives?) and have found that the best way to “sell” myself is to be completely relaxed, non-scripted and let my life experience speak for itself. The value I bring to any situation is directly related to the skill set that is me, and I have acquired that skill set only by living and experiencing.

When I started this journey a year and a half ago, I spent a lot of time “telling”. I was worrying about lingo and tag lines before actually having done anything. I put the cart before the horse.

If you’re actual skill set does not match your self-assessed value, start “doing” more and “telling” less.

I am proud to have a skill set that is me, and I encourage each one of you to form your own. I’m not just talking about being a UFC fighter, either. If I am not equipped with the proper skill set to be a great husband and father, none of this other stuff even matters. I live my life as a father so that in a million years, Gracie wouldn’t have chosen anyone but me to be her dad.

Be you. Be proud of you. Develop a skill set that is you.

I am conducting my first online course with 4 friends/colleagues/professionals and week 1 was awesome. I appreciate the support and loyalty you have all shown me, and anything I do in this community, I’ll do with integrity and authenticity. If I don’t, please keep me in check. We are a small group compared to email lists of thousands. But many of you have been with me since Day 1 of my UFC journey. Thank you!

Have a great week…and Create a Skill Set that is You!
